SICS Senior In The Spotlight: Trevaughn Smith
Trevaughn Smith’s passion for people, education, and helping others is apparent. Graduating this year, the 17-year-old senior has a bright outlook on his future in public service. His involvement in the school spans from being an Official School Ambassador to a Model Congress team member. He is vice president and a co-chair of the Springfield branch of the Massachusetts High School Democrats.
“I have been attending Sabis since kindergarten,” he says. Trevaughn has seen exceptional growth in his public speaking abilities over the past several years. “I was pretty shy before 9th grade, but I branched out and joined clubs and Student Life. These groups helped to teach me that my opinions were valued and helped me voice them.”
Nowadays, he thrives at public speaking, even acting as a morning announcer at the school. Trevaughn has applied to nearly two dozen colleges within Massachusetts and New York, many of which he has already been accepted to. This includes UMass Boston, AIC, WNEU, Marymount Manhattan College, Suffolk University, and Pace University. “I haven’t decided where I’m headed after graduation in the spring, but I know I want to go into public service, and then law school and earn my law degree,” he explains. “Sabis does an excellent job in helping students prepare for college, starting with the pre-application process.” When asked what advice Trevaughn would offer future students, he says “be involved. Sabis offers opportunities that other local schools do not, academically and through their activities and clubs.”
