SICS Senior In The Spotlight: La’Nayia McKenzie
Having attended Sabis since 2nd grade, senior La’Nayia McKenzie is prepared to head off to college in the fall. She has applied to nearly 12 schools and plans to attend Emmanuel College to study biology with the ultimate goal of becoming a pediatrician.
“La’Nayia McKenzie is vivacious and inquisitive,” says teacher Regina Lopez. “Her everyday smile brings solid joy to her peers daily. She is willing to facilitate issues not only within the classroom, but also outside of it. Her goal is to be a good friend to those in need. Her ability to refrain from impulsive actions so she can rationally think situations through is one of the many reasons she is so beloved at SABIS International Charter School.” La’Nayia enjoys math and science classes, as well as AP English. When not in the classroom, she is an avid participant in various church functions and is a volunteer through the school’s Student Life Social Responsibility Department. She has enjoyed helping plan school-wide events.
“I have helped run and organize events like food drives,” explains La’Nayia. “Last year I enjoyed organizing an art auction at our school-wide multicultural fair. Students from the advanced art class donated their work to the auction, and the funds went to charity. It was so rewarding.”
La’Nayia owes much of her success to her teachers and the people who have supported her throughout her schooling.
“The teachers at Sabis have always been on my side, and they helped me get through the stressful times.”
