SICS Senior In The Spotlight: Jewell Bethea
Sabis senior Jewell Bethea is confident about her
future. She is heading off to Bay Path University in the
fall and is planning to use the skills she acquired at Sabis to pursue a degree in forensic science. To see Jewell is to realize that she carries herself humbly with patience, kindness, and understanding of others.
“Jewel’s level of maturity and inner strength is quite impressive,” says Kathleen Joyce, school counselor at Sabis. “She truly shines because of her selfassurance and confidence and is the kind of student that teachers dream of having.” Jewell joined Sabis in the 7th grade and developed her selfconfidence through participating in a variety of school activities such as yearbook and student life.“Both [activities] have really helped with my weaknesses, like like adhering to deadlines
and collaborating with others,” she says. “I always used to doubt myself, but everyone here at the school is so nice, supportive, and encouraging, and that’s really helped me open up.” The skills she acquired at Sabis helped put Jewell in a strong position academically when it came time to apply for college. Strong MCAS scores earned her the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship, an eightsemester tuition waiver to any Massachusetts state college or university. She was also awarded the Bay Bath Dean’s Scholarship. “Aside from gaining confidence over the past few years, I’ve learned to handle procrastination better and keep myself organized,” she explains. “All in all, I’ll look fondly back at the friends and memories I’ve made at Sabis. I’ve not only grown personally, but academically as well.”
