Kiana Ramos

Eight years ago, Kiana Ramos began an academic journey at SABIS® International Charter School in Springfield that has paved the way to her dream college.

“My mom was very impressed with the school’s standing in the community,” says Kiana, who was admitted into the fifth grade through the school’s annual lottery.

One of the first things Kiana noticed after transferring to SABIS, where intellectual curiosity is stimulated, was the regular testing.

“It was a shock at first, but I soon realized that these tests helped me as a student to understand where I was struggling so that those challenges could be addressed right away,” she says.

Now a senior, Kiana “grew to love” that the teachers “really worked” with students to help them excel in their studies and beyond.

“There was a sense of support from teachers and administrators that I didn’t realize when I was younger. I now understand how their constant encouragement has helped me get into the college of my dreams,” says Kiana.

As a math peer-tutor, athlete and captain, and member of the SABIS Student Life Organization®, Kiana developed leadership skills and expanded her passion for community service. She became a Teen Board member of the Ronald McDonald House, a speaker for the TEDx Easthampton Women Conference, and a member of the first Young Women’s Advisory Council for the Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts.

“Student Life at SABIS helped me realize that I really do love charity work, and that’s what I want to do in the future.”

Accepted to several well-regarded universities, Kiana is excited to attend Boston College as one of only 25 first-year students joining the inaugural class of the Human-Centered Engineering program.

“The program focuses on engineering for the benefit of the environment and people,” says Kiana. “I want to bring justice to lower-income communities hit hardest by environmental issues.”

Equipped with a strong academic foundation, leadership skills and experience, and a passion for community service, this SABIS 2021 graduate is ready to chase her dreams.

“Student Life at SABIS helped me realize that I really do love charity work, and that’s what I want to do in the future.”
