Senior Genesis Pieczarka is celebrating more than the fact that she is graduating from SABIS International Charter School in Springfield. She is also celebrating that she was accepted at 29 of the 30 colleges to which she applied!
“My end goal is to run a charity one day because it is something I’ve done through SABIS and fallen in love with,” she says.
Genesis learned how it felt to help others while participating in the SABIS Student Life Organization®, which emphasizes the acquisition of “life skills” through real-life experiences and helps students to develop their leadership skills. As leader of the SABIS Social Responsibility Department, she had the opportunity to help organize events to raise money for various charities, and she developed a drive to serve others.
“I realized that I wanted to ‘pay it forward’ for those who helped me … I saw firsthand the impact that it could have on someone’s life and on the community,” she says.
Genesis’ journey to SABIS was an exercise of patience. She and her twin brother had been on the school’s annual waiting list since Kindergarten, and her chance finally came in fifth grade!
“I found it to be academically challenging compared to my other school, and I had to really step up. As a shy freshman, I wouldn’t have believed then how much I would grow over the years. I developed a voice and believe that I’m a better person both socially and academically,” she says.
The person Genesis has become is one who appreciates the chance to have attended SABIS. When asked what she would tell someone considering going to SABIS, Genesis says, “It’s a great opportunity and the best choice I ever made.”
Genesis will be attending UMass Amherst in the fall majoring in Political Science.
“[SABIS is] a great opportunity and the best choice I ever made.”
