To Christian Rivas, SABIS has become synonymous with home. “SABIS has given me a sense of family. If I need someone to talk to, I know I can find someone easily here.” Christian also believes that his SABIS education, along with the opportunities his school offered him to play sports and join numerous clubs, has helped mold him into the person he is now. That person is a young man who is well on his way to mastering the art of achieving balance in life.
Christian is a tremendously gifted student athlete and is on the SABIS wresting and soccer teams, where he has earned numerous accolades. Most notably, Christian is a part of SABIS’ 100-Win Club, as he has achieved 144 wins throughout his high school wrestling career. “My junior year I was an All-State Champion,” adds Christian, who also has been classified as an All-American Wrestler. “Sophomore year, junior, and senior year, I was an All-Western Mass Champion.”
Far from distracting him from his studies, Christian believes that his involvement in sports contributed to improving his academic life. “It takes a lot of discipline to be a wrestler,” says Christian, who adds that his organization and time management have been enhanced by his participation in the sport.
Besides sports, Christian is also involved in numerous activities at school. As a member of the SABIS Student Life Organization® Activities Department, he helped set up and organize the college fair that was held at the school. Christian only wishes he had gotten involved sooner. “It’s definitely made being at SABIS a lot more fun and enjoyable. I got to meet new people and make new relationships with different people.”
Christian will be attending Johnson & Wales University in the fall. While he is currently uncertain about what exactly his future will hold, he plans to pursue a career in business and continue to excel in both academics and wrestling.
“SABIS, as well as the sports and clubs I have participated in, has helped mold me into the person I am now.”
